Andes to Amazon Biodiversity Program

Andrew Waltke became a research and herbarium assistant at BRIT in
April working for the Andes to Amazon Biodiversity Program. His work includes
electron microscopy of tropical seeds, collecting, dissecting, and
measuring of specimens for the program. He graduated in May 2006 from
Texas Christian University with a B.S. in Biology and minor in Studio
Art. He recently received second place at the Texas Society of
Microscopy’s student competition for his research of achenes with Dr.
Guy Nesom of BRIT, and will become the student representative for the
society in 2006. An active painter, he had his first art gallery
opening in January 2006.
