M.S. in Biology, Texas Christian University, 2007
Ethan Householder completed his M.S. degree in
Environmental Science from Texas Christian University in collaboration
with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas (BRIT). He has strong
interests in both tropical conservation and tropical agriculture. His
work for the Andes to Amazon Biodiversity Program in Peru focuses on the
natural history, ecology, and biology of species in the genus Vanilla (Orchidaceae). Specifically, he classified the Vanilla
habitat using a variety GIS techniques, quantified potential fruit
production through pollination experiments, and determined the factors
that affect fruit quality and plant health and ecology. This work will
feed directly into a proposal for a management and conservation plan
for wetlands of Madre de Dios, with focus on this potential non-timber
forest product and a potential economic model to conserve its natural
habitat.
