Fernando Cornejo-Valverde
Ingeniero Forestal
Research Associate & Field Research Botanist, Andes to Amazon Biodiversity Program
B.S., La Molina University, 1990
Fernando Cornejo-Valverde, of Madre de Dios, Peru, is a Research
Associate and Field Research Botanist. He is Co-P.I. of the Andes to
Amazon Biodiversity Program and shares responsibilities for directing
activities in the field. He was born in Arequipa, Peru, and studied
Forestry and Tropical Botany. He has published numerous scientific
articles-- the result of 20 years of studying tropical forest,
including four years of research in Panama. His interests lie in
ecology and botany of tropical forests, as well as conservation and
sustainable use and management of natural resources. One of his most
recent and important projects has involved studies of the biology and
economic botany of Brazil nuts (Bertholettia excelsa,
Lecythidaceae) in Madre de Dios, Peru. Fernando is well-known for his
expertise in the tropical fruits and seeds, especially of the western
Amazon and is working with John Janovec of BRIT to finish the following
book that will be published by Princeton University Press in 2005:
Cornejo,
F. and J. P. Janovec. A Guide to Seeds of Amazonian Plants. 426 pages,
ca. 1000 color images. Princeton University Press (scheduled for
submission and publication in 2007).
