Jorge
Lingan was born in Peru, he
is a Biologist with major in Botany from the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima,
Peru.
Jorge's
research in the last six years was focused on systematic and taxonomy of aroids
(Araceae family). Currently a student at Texas Christian University (TCU),
working towards his Master's in Environmental Sciences. His primary focus with
the AABP is identification of the
Araceae samples from the Los Amigos Conservation Concession, and composition of
the Field Guide to the Araceae of Los Amigos.
From
2000 to 2005 he has participated in several expeditions as a part of different
projects conducted mainly in the Peruvian forests. While in Oxapampa, he
created and led several expeditions to the Parque Nacional Yanachaga-Chemillen
in order to accomplish his thesis research; this was supported by a grant from
the Missouri Botanical Garden.
Jorge
also has extensive herbarium experience, working as an Associated Researcher
since 2000 in the USM Herbarium. In 2004, he got an internship in the Missouri Botanical Garden to spend two months with
the specialist in this group, Dr Thomas Croat.
Besides
trekking all over the world, he also has 4 publications presenting more than 15
new species to the botanical community. Jorge had also described some other
rediscovered species and took part in the elaboration of the "Libro Rojo
de las Plantas Endemicas de Peru".
