Miguel
Chocce is a student of San Marcos University in Lima, Peru, and he has
worked simultaneously on research projects in the San Marcos Herbarium
and elsewhere. Miguel's research is focused on the diversity and
ecology of orchids in the Andes-Amazon region of southeastern Peru. He
has led the inventory of orchids of the Los Amigos Conservation Area
and Biological Station. In June 2005, Miguel will be starting a
two-year intensive program of monitoring and inventory of orchids in
the Wayqecha Cloud Forest. Miguel is a Peruvian student who first
worked with John Janovec in 2002 and he has been an important part of
our project ever since. He is a future botanical superstar of Peru,
especially for orchids. Miguel will focus on taxonomy, ecology, and
distribution of orchids. An orchid expert in the US, Eric Christenson, works as a consultant for the program and serves as a mentor to Miguel.
