Renan
Valega has two decades of experience with many facets of science,
education, and conservation in Peru. He served as a naturalist guide in
Manu National Park in the 1980s. He then worked as a lead field
scientist in programs of environmental impact assessments throughout
the Madre de Dios River basin in Peru. He has traveled almost every
river in the region. His real speciality is ornithology and the birds
of Peru. He has just finished two manuscripts that are in review
involving bird species checklists for two important regions of Peru.
Renan
serves as Project Manager on the BRIT-Peru side and he is in charge of
logistics, communications, and planning from his base in Lima, Peru. He
is also involved in expeditions to the Andes-Amazon region of
southeastern Peru, with focus on the bird diversity and ecology of the
region. Renan also works directly with John Janovec and others to
develop and coordinate field biology courses for international groups
of students.
