The mission of the AABP is focused on
the region where the Andes meets the Amazon in southeastern Peru, with
research sites along an elevational gradient that connects the
Departments of Cusco and Madre de Dios. The red box in the map below encompases the geographic area of our research.

On
a broader scale, Janovec and colleagues are also carrying out long-term
studies of the diversity, ecology, evolution, biogeography, and
conservation of the nutmeg familing of flowering plants, scientifically
known as the Myristicaceae. This requires studies in the field and
museum at many scales of diversity and distribution, from individual
species growing in Madre de Dios, Peru, to groups of species and genera
that occur throughout the neotropical region and in other tropical
regions as well.
