Peru Projects Home | Lima | Quince Mil | Puerto Maldonado

The AABP is actively conducting studies at three main locations in Peru: Lima, Puerto Maldonado, and Quince Mil. Bases of operations were established at each of these sites where the team lives and works within the communities. The horticulture project is conducting intensive research and education in ornamental horticulture in two primary and permanent sites of Peru. The nursery site in Puerto Maldonado, Peru, provides an ideal setting for propagating and cultivating the plant species being collected in rainforests and wetlands of the region. This site and nursery are managed and operated by Dr. John Janovec, Jason Wells, and team with direct approval from the local Peruvian land owner, Boris Zlatar. The greenhouse at La Molina University in Lima, Peru, has been operational since 2005 and will continue to be an important site for carrying out research and education in ornamental horticulture. Beyond the established infrastructure in Puerto Maldonado and la Molina, Janovec and team will integrate the ongoing collection and imaging of potential ornamental plant species with a new phase of botanical exploration in the community of Quince Mil, Peru.
