Morphological Description

Diagnosis: Plants medium-sized, in loose tufts to 2.5 cm high; rhizoids sparse. Leaves 1.5-2.5 mm long, distant, irregularly contorted when dry, spreading when wet, oval to suborbicular, weakly decurrent; apices obtuse to rounded; margins narrowly recurved below, not or faintly bordered above, entire or obscurely serrulate; costa subpercurrent, ending 2-4 cells below the apex; upper cells rhomboidal, basal cells enlarged, bulging, rectangular. Sporophyte unknown.

Distribution: Mexico, Belize, Honduras, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Colombia, Peru

Ecology: On rocks along streams, 300-2500 m.

Notes: Sharp et al. 1994. Bryum renauldii is distinctive because of scarcely bordered, suborbicular leaves, rounded at the apex and having short cells and a slender costa somewhat short of the apex.
