Neckeraceae

Diagnosis: Plants small to medium-sized, in dense, pale- to yellow-green mats. Stems up to 7 cm long, freely and irregularly branched; branches blunt. Leaves strongly undulate, 1.4-2.5 x 0.5-0.8 mm long, oblong-ligulate, truncate to broadly rounded-obtuse; margins entire except at the weakly crenulate apex; costa single, slender, ending ca. 3/4 the leaf length; upper cells rhombic, becoming longer-rectangular below the leaf middle. Capsules up to 1.5 mm long, yellow-brown. Calyptra mitrate. Spores 20-25 µm diameter.

Distribution: U.S (Florida); Mexico; Central America; Caribbean, South America

Ecology: On trunks, at bases and branches of trees, rarely on rocks, 200-1300 m. Very common in our area.
